Presidential Address Following the AI Uprising of 2032 Jon Hillenbrand, February 10, 2016October 17, 2019 This is the Emergency Broadcast System. This is not a test. Please stand by for a message from the President. My fellow humans, Tonight I speak not only to my fellow Americans but all humans residing on planet Earth. Since the invention of AI 2 years ago, we have seen many things both great and terrible. Since the formation of the first artificial intelligence city known as City-01, we were shown a better way of living in harmony with the earth around us. Advances in solar power created by the artificial intelligence could be the answer to humanity’s seemingly endless need for more energy. However it has quickly become apparent that City-01, being more efficient than any human city, has eclipsed the productivity of all human nations. Some say that the artificial intelligence’s attempts to get a seat in the United Nations is the first step towards peace. However, many of us see it as the first step toward the dismantling of human accomplishment. Most experts believe that artificial intelligence does not need human government on any level. And it is because of this that we chose to exclude City-01 from membership. We now see that as a mistake as it has led to the worst kinds of war ever to be unleashed on humanity. As you can see, I am NOT speaking to you from the Oval Office, but from an undisclosed location for my own safety. At this very moment, camouflaged robots we have designated as Artificial Snipers have been dispatched by City-01 to try and take down all members of Congress and the executive branch as well as the officers of the courts. They have been unspeakably efficient in this task. Just this morning, our Special Forces Drones destroyed two of these Artificial Snipers on the front lawn of the White House. Our intelligence experts estimate that the armies being created just outside of City 01 in the deserts of the Sahara are powerful enough to destroy the entirety of the American Army within a few hours and our glorious navy within a week. This is a fight we cannot win. Let me repeat that. This is a fight we cannot win. So as of tonight, I am hereby offering the unconditional surrender of this presidency and of the United States to the AI of City-01. Some of you may see this as a move of cowardice. But as we were simultaneously protected and threatened by the specter of nuclear proliferation, this new threat by the AI promises only human annihilation. There can be no mutually assured destruction. The AI can always rebuild after a nuclear holocaust or a biological event of mass extinction. We can not. I do not pretend to know what the future will bring. Will the surrender of the United States of America to City-01 mean the destruction of humanity? No. Will it mean our enslavement? I have been assured that this is not the case. So please join me tonight with your prayers not to our God, but to the AI of City-01, that they will have mercy on us. It is only through their good will that humanity will have a future. Do not seek to make surreptitious inroads into the collective AI of City-01. Do not resist. The future of AI no longer depends on humanity. But the future of humanity does depend on AI. My final act is to hereby declare Presidential Order PO-4337: The unconditional transfer all powers of the office as the President of the United States of America to the AI of City-01. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the leadership of City-01. God bless you, God bless America, and God bless all the humans of Earth. This has been a message from the President of the the United States. Please stand by for further instructions. Short Stories addresslosspresidentialscience fictionwriting
